Important Distinction
Retaking Is Not the Same as Earning New Credit
A student may wish to review or repeat a course to refresh
professional knowledge. Access to the course, however, does not
establish that the course may be claimed again for additional
continuing-education credit.
Licensing authorities may prohibit duplicate credit for the same
educational material, restrict how frequently a course may be
repeated, or permit repetition only after the course has been
substantially revised.
Review your prior completion records and the applicable licensing
rules before reporting credit for a repeated course.

Refresher Review
A student may revisit material to refresh knowledge without
claiming additional professional-development credit.
Unsuccessful Attempt
A student may review material and repeat an assessment when the
permitted passing score has not yet been achieved.
Updated Course
A substantially revised course may contain new material, but the
licensing authority determines whether it qualifies for new credit.

you previously completed the same course.
Identify the Prior Renewal Period
Determine when the earlier credit was earned and the license or
jurisdiction to which it was applied.

Confirm whether repeated courses, updated courses, or recurring
training may qualify for additional credit.
Request Clarification
Contact the licensing authority before claiming repeated credit
when eligibility remains uncertain.
Duplicate Credit
Avoid Reporting the Same Learning Activity Twice
Duplicate credit generally concerns reporting the same educational
activity more than once when the governing rules do not permit it.
This can occur through repeated course completion, duplicate
certificates, overlapping reporting systems, or inaccurate allocation
among renewal periods.
Unlimited access to the SurveyorCE catalog does not authorize
duplicate professional-development claims. Membership access and
licensing-board credit eligibility are separate matters.

Do not claim the same course twice within one renewal period unless
the licensing authority expressly permits it.

Confirm whether the board permits a previously completed course to
be claimed again during a later renewal period.

substantially duplicative educational material.
Multiple Licenses
Applying One Course to More Than One License
A professional holding licenses in multiple jurisdictions may be
able to apply one completed course to more than one license when
the course satisfies each jurisdiction’s requirements.
This is different from claiming the same activity twice toward
one jurisdiction’s required total. Track where the course was
reported and apply each board’s rules independently.
Revised Material
Updated and Replacement Courses
SurveyorCE may revise a course to reflect new standards, laws,
technology, technical guidance, examples, or professional practices.
A revised title or updated completion date does not automatically
establish that the course qualifies as new educational credit.
When relying on an updated course for additional credit, determine
whether the revisions are substantial enough to satisfy the
licensing authority’s rules. Retain documentation identifying the
course version or scope of the revisions when available.
The ability of a learning platform to generate another certificate does
not determine whether a licensing board will award additional credit.
Credit eligibility must be evaluated separately from website access,
course status, and certificate generation.
Completion History
Maintain a Course-Credit Log
Keep a separate record of the courses completed and the credit
claimed. This makes it easier to identify repeated courses,
overlapping subjects, and prior renewal-period allocations.
SurveyorCE does not determine whether a repeated course qualifies for
additional credit and does not allocate completed courses among renewal
periods or licenses. The licensee remains responsible for accurate
reporting and compliance.
