Guam Renewal Requirements
The following items reflect Guam statutes, PEALS Board rules, and current Board guidance unless marked as an interpretation.
No continuing education mandate
- No PDH requirement Guam does not impose a continuing education or professional development hour requirement on land surveyors as a condition of registration renewal.
- Renewal is registration-based A registrant renews by submitting the renewal application, paying the fee, and meeting the Board’s administrative requirements, rather than reporting continuing education hours.
- PEALS Board Surveyors are registered by the Guam Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors (PEALS).
- Verify current status Because a board may adopt continuing education in the future, a registrant should confirm the current renewal requirements with the Board each cycle.
Renewal essentials
- Online renewal PEALS provides a web-based portal for individual registration and renewal, including uploading required documents.
- Tax clearance Renewal typically requires a tax clearance and payment to the Treasurer of Guam, consistent with the Board’s forms and fee schedule.
- Certificate of authorization Firms offering surveying services must maintain a certificate of authorization, which is separate from individual renewal.
- Registrant responsibility It remains the registrant’s responsibility to renew on time regardless of whether a renewal notice is received.
Voluntary Continuing Education
Although Guam does not require continuing education for surveyor renewal, many surveyors choose to pursue professional development to stay current with technology, standards, and boundary law. This is voluntary in Guam and is not tracked or audited by the Board as a renewal condition.
A surveyor who is also registered in a U.S. state that requires continuing education must still meet that state’s requirement to keep the state license active, even though Guam itself does not impose one. Courses that satisfy a state’s continuing education requirement, including those aligned with the NCEES continuing professional competency standard, can serve that purpose while also supporting good practice in Guam.
Because Guam’s requirements can change, a surveyor should confirm the current renewal conditions with the PEALS Board at each renewal, in case a continuing education requirement is introduced.
